Torontonians depend on Mike Filey for their city’s history.  He is an on-air tour guide as he hosts MIKE FILEY’S TORONTO on The New AM 740, a show featuring his extensive expertise in the fascinating history of his hometown.  Mike has researched, recorded and written more than two dozen books on various facets of Toronto’s past and for over 30 years has contributed a popular column, “The Way We Were”, to the Sunday Toronto Sun.

One of his most popular books is The TTC Story, the First 75 Years.  He also remembers a horse trough at the corner of Bathurst/Bloor comer, a guy named Mirvish running a store along the street, and seeing the Wizard of Oz over and over again at the late, lamented Alhambra Theatre.  Born in Toronto in 1941, Mike received a diploma in Chemical Technology from Ryerson University.  Following a nine-year stint with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Mike radically changed his path from 1974 – 1982 to pursue event planning and public relations with the Canadian National Exhibition and Canada’s Wonderland!

The Fileys – Mike and his wife Yarmila – live, cut grass, shovel snow, and pay taxes in the Willowdale area of Toronto.
