The late broadcasting legend Earl Warren hosted Sunday mornings with a unique blend of warmth, humour, charm and charity.

Now his son, Murray Segal, continues the tradition; he and his many guests inform thousands of listeners about various services available to The Zoomer Audience, as well as playing the ‘all time favourites’ of Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles and Bublé and many others between 10:00am and noon, every Sunday morning.

Robbie Lane has been a big part of the Canadian Music Scene since the 60’s and continues to perform with the “Disciples” several times a month. He hosted a television show for 4 years on CTV and has done Voice Overs for many Radio Commercials. Several years ago he began an added career as a DJ on Radio and loves that part of his work as much as any other.

“I have been doing some on-air shifts at AM740 on and off in 2009, and I am thrilled to have landed a permanent spot on the Sixties At Six (sponsored by The Old Mill Inn and Spa) and The British Invasion. I talk to many people who are loyal to AM740 and they all love the Music as much as I do. It’s great to be here working with the “BEST OF THE BEST”

Scratch at knowledge and invariably a mystery lurks just beneath the surface. It’s his...

Scratch at knowledge and invariably a mystery lurks just beneath the surface. It’s his indefatigable and passionate pursuit of these mysteries, his insatiable curiosity of the world around him and his unique and finely tuned story telling abilities that have earned Richard Syrett the moniker, Canada’s Art Bell. And on Friday April 24th, 2009, Richard guest-hosted Coast to Coast filling in for George Noory.

First, foremost, and always a broadcaster. Richard’s writing, story-telling, and interviewing skills, infectious enthusiasm and the ability to stare down chaos and confusion with a smile make Richard a rare and valuable media commodity. He has been producing fresh, compelling and provocative talk radio in Toronto, North America’s fourth largest market, for nearly 20 years.

After graduating top of his class from Centennial College’s Radio and Television Program in 1992 he began working almost immediately at one of North America’s blowtorch stations, the legendary CFRB AM 1010. He received his “doctorate” in broadcasting working as the producer for such talk show legends as Larry Solway, Ed Needham, the late Brian Linehan, Andy Barrie, John Oakley, Michael Coren, Jim Richards and Spider Jones.

In 1999 he took over the microphone for the first time with his own talk show and by 2000, his arcane Sunday night program examining political intrigue, the dark side of geo-politics, cover-ups, corruption, alternative energy, alternative health and unexplained phenomenon, had become an appointment tune. In 2003, his special brand of talk was chronicled on the front page of The Globe and Mail’s Review section (Canada’s national newspaper) and that spring his show earned a 13 share in Toronto’s very competitive market.

Later in 2003, Richard left CFRB for cross-town rival, AM 640 to build and produce an edgy, funny new morning show and continue his own unique show on Friday nights. The show continued to be a ratings grabber, drawing a larger audience than the stations’ hockey broadcasts of the city’s beloved Maple Leafs.

Richard was lured back to CFRB in early 2007 to host five nights a week. Over its two year The Mighty Aphroditerun, it garnered a dedicated, even zealous, following. He consistently beat his rival in the market, the behemoth Coast to Coast by as much as 2 share points.

When Richard’s show was suddenly and unexpectedly cut from CFRB’s line-up as part of a ‘corporate reorganizing’ Richard’s devoted listeners organized and staged a rally outside the radio station in minus 30 degree weather! Despite being off the air, his past, archived RB shows continue to be downloaded from his website. One of his last shows in December of 2008 has been downloaded in excess of 31,000 times.

Richard has obviously struck a chord with a huge market and has become the new voice of alternative talk radio. Richard is not, however, a one-note wonder. As a whimsical impressionist, he had created followings for his fictitious characters during his morning show producing stint and he is recognized for his political acuity.

Richard resides in Unionville, Ontario with his Mighty Aphrodite and their twin boys.

Toronto’s one and only “Diva Of Romance’ is back. A Zoomer at 49, host, actor and author Ziggy remains a beloved Toronto celebrity and now Moses has her returning to the air, not on TV but on radio – on The New AM 740 with a weeknight late-show appropriately called STARDUST.

Ziggy has written for the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, TV Guide, Elle Canada, Toronto Life Fashion and most recently for the National Post. Her filmography includes, Cooper Mountain, White Room, and Love, Sex and Eating the Bones. But many still have Life On Venus Avenue etched in our minds, or her indelible presence on MushMusic, Ooh La La, The Ziggy Show, Sextv and BookTelevision. Well, fans again have the opportunity to hear her iconic sultry voice in Stardust (where romance, passion and fantasy take flight amid carefully selected love songs!) and Midnight Blue (the only X-rated show on radio). Tune in to The New AM 740 to witness an older, wiser, and still completely lovely Ziggy.

After hosting the popular morning show for over 4 years, The New AM 740’s beloved Norm Edwards has moved back to his familiar afternoon show, fittingly named AFTERNOON EXPRESS. As he states, “We keep you moving, even if you’re stuck going nowhere.”

At 54, Norm is a radio veteran (and a Zoomer too)! He worked in a variety of different formats in Toronto, Dryden, Brockville, Hunstville, and Parry Sound and for 13 years served audiences on the old 1250 AM signal. In 2001, he helped launch AM 740. A man who loves the outdoors, Norm enjoys cruising the waters of Lake Ontario and the Trent Severn Waterway with his family on their 28-foot express cruiser aptly named “Radio Waves”.

Torontonians depend on Mike Filey for their city’s history. He is an on-air tour guide as he hosts MIKE FILEY’S TORONTO on The New AM 740, a show featuring his extensive expertise in the fascinating history of his hometown. Mike has researched, recorded and written more than two dozen books on various facets of Toronto’s past and for over 30 years has contributed a popular column, “The Way We Were”, to the Sunday Toronto Sun.

One of his most popular books is The TTC Story, the First 75 Years. He also remembers a horse trough at the corner of Bathurst/Bloor comer, a guy named Mirvish running a store along the street, and seeing the Wizard of Oz over and over again at the late, lamented Alhambra Theatre. Born in Toronto in 1941, Mike received a diploma in Chemical Technology from Ryerson University. Following a nine-year stint with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Mike radically changed his path from 1974 – 1982 to pursue event planning and public relations with the Canadian National Exhibition and Canada’s Wonderland!

The New AM 740’s Scottish lad, Denis Snowdon was born and educated in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Oakville in 1964. Bringing his roots to the airwaves, Denis launched A LITTLE BREATH OF SCOTLAND on CHWO which continues its success on The New AM 740. In October 2010, the show celebrated its 45th anniversary! The longevity of Denis’ show is an achievement that very few in the industry can match.

In recognition of this, Denis was inducted into the Quarter Century Club of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters in 1991, in recognition of his contribution to radio. Denis is the voice of the annual Fergus Tattoo. He also M.C’d the Skydome Tattoo in honour of Toronto’s 200th birthday, and was the narrator in the critically acclaimed Scottish Dance Company of Canada’s production, “Immrama”. For leisure, Denis travels and loves a good mystery novel. He lives in Oakville with his wife Denise and they have three children and four grandchildren.

George Jonescu’s favourite music is big band, bluegrass, and gospel so it is very fitting that he hosts BIG BAND SUNDAY NIGHT on The New AM 740.

In September 2010, George will celebrate 60 years in broadcasting! Starting his career as the host of TEEN TIME, his radio days have taken him to stations in Montreal, Sault Ste. Marie, Barrie, and Toronto. About his work he says, “Being a broadcaster affords a platform which must always be used with responsibility and sensibility, if not, it is an indulgence.”

George is a community man. He gives his time through the White Cross Centre, a mental health halfway house in Sault Ste Marie where he has led a campaign to build sports facilities; spoken out for women’s rights in business and sport; and worked with young people.
