Well, I made it to “blog #2″ – the “sophomore blog”. I think I’m getting the hang of it now. Let me tell you a bit about myself: I’m the Program Director for AM 740 – well my official title is a bit longer “Director of Programming and Operations” – a mouthful, that actually includes a lot of work. As “just” the Program Director, I’d be in charge of what you hear on the radio, but with the fancy title, I also do a lot of behind-the-scenes project management.
I’m responsible for the on-air show hosts, the “dee-jays” (as they were once called), and the music you hear, and the ’structure’ of the station’s sound. That means, where every specific thing you hear, goes – which category of music starts the hour, followed by what, and so on. Where do we play the commercials, and when do we play the contests, and what kind of special or feature programming will we do on the weekend, etc.
It’s a great job and I’ve done it for a long time. In other blogs I’ll tell you more about my past – if you’re a radio ‘junkie’ you’ll like that and hopefully enjoy some of my stories from 36 years in the biz.
I also host a few specialty shows on AM 740, including ‘Midnight Blue’ – that naughty show weeknights from 12-1am., and I also host ‘Vintage Favourites’, Sundays 2-4pm. – with all that “old stuff” – back to the 1920s and 30s even. I also co-host ‘Mike Filey’s Toronto’ with Toronto historian Mike Filey, Sundays 12-1pm. ‘Nuff for now… ’till next time…

Howdy, Mr. Midnight Blue: Like yourself, new at this blogging stuff. After a couple weeks of blogging, really, really getting the hang of it. When in college (’75), had a chance to see how a radio station operated. Grant you, it wasn’t a REAL radio station, but it had all the makings. In my book, on air personalities will always be called ‘dee jays’. You may have heard me quite often (thru emails), maybe tooooo many emails, how I;ve enjoyed AM740 over the last almost 5 years, but can’t stop telling everyone. Even thinking of changing my license plate to read LUVAM740. Spring of 1983, had an interview with a local country station, WYRK, as receptionist. Of course, came in 2nd. Story of my life. Music has always been a part of my life, which where I spent 6 years in school chorus, & 15 with my church folk group. Sang, played bells, & tamborine. Took long enough to get your pic on the website, so now I can put a face with the voice. You, Bill, Eva, John, Little Frankie, Brian, Norm, & Charlie, also included the AM740 Zoomer Radio logo. Got lots of pics on my blog page, & adding more, along with videos. Check it out, think you’ll love it. Well, time to say so long until next time. Keep it rockin, so I can stay AM740 listener.
