Does time fly by for you too ?  Before you know it, it’s Friday and you wonder where the week went.  If I think back, I know it’s been a busy and eventful week.  “Canada’s First Lady of the Guitar” – Liona Boyd dropped by on Wednesday for a chat with Norm Edwards – she is stunningly beautiful, with long blonde hair and a gorgeous face. As we posed for a photo, I can tell you she smelled nice too.  It’s so sad to know she cannot play the guitar ever again the way she used to – due to a “carpal-tunnel-LIKE” problem on one of her picking fingers…due to practicing/playing 5 hours a day, every day for most of her life.  So now she strums mostly, and has turned to singing – I like her new CD – we’re playing a couple songs from it. If you’d like to hear Norm’s interview with Liona, and a lovely photo, check it out elsewhere on our site.

Last night I caught Big Rude Jake’s show at Hugh’s Room – he was playing tracks from his brand new CD “Quicksand”, along with some older tunes. Great performance, with 9 piece band and 3 terrific back-up female singers called ‘The Hell-Razers”.  Been to Hugh’s Room yet ?  I like it; a very nice club, with great food too.

I wonder how bad the weekend rain will be – I have always liked ‘Word on the Street’ – this Sunday around Queen’s Park … rain would be a real drag for this great annual event.

Do you like comedian Ron Jacobs ?   He’ll be co-hosting with The Happy Gang Monday morning after 9am…he’s a funny guy.  Also on Monday, you’ll get the chance to hear Anne Murray’s daughter – Dawn Langstroth – in one of her first solo performances – right here on AM 740 in our Concert Lobby at 2:10pm.  She’s a fine singer with a broader range than mum.

Let me give a plug for my own show this Sunday afternoon – ‘Vintage Favourites’ from 2-4pm… firts hour all about baseball, with some fun, novelty songs, plus the 1909 reading of ‘Casey at the Bat’ and a hilarious George Carlin bit comparing baseball with football.  In the second hour, it’ll get a bit melancholy – with September songs and the music of autumn.

So with that – let me wish you the very best, as we fall into autumn – and make good use of YOUR time !  Cheers – Gene.
