Hi friends – I’m sorry to have taken so long to add a new entry. It’s been so very busy at the radio station.  Quite a day today – Anne Murray was in-station for an interview with Ziggy. I’m sure Ziggy will have much more on her blog – check it out.  Anne is doing media to promote her autobiography “All of Me” coming to book stores next Tuesday (Oct.27).  We’ll take today’s interview and add some of her great songs and create a 2-hour radio special – we’re airing that Monday Oct.26th at 1pm.  Hope you can tune in.  Anne is such a very nice person; I’ve been lucky enough to meet her a few times in the past and of course have seen her in concert.  That experience may well be a cherished memory, never to re-live again – she’s quite adamant about retiring – no more touring, no more shows, no more recordings !  As a fan, I’m not pleased, but as a human being – I can easily understand her – she’s done this for 40+ years, and now in her 60s, she just wants some “private time”.

A couple weeks ago Anne’s daughter Dawn Langstroth performed in the station’s “concert lobby” and did a terrific job. I asked Anne if she’d attended Dawn’s concert recently (in Georgetown) – she said she was in the audience, and was so proud of Dawn.  A mom’s thrill.

I’m sure you know Robbie Lane (& The Disciples) … he’s only been rockin’ Toronto since the early 60s…and has hosted shows on 1050/CHUM, and recently here on AM 740. Well, this is great news – Robbie will be joining the station with a regular on-air gig – hosting “The Sixties at Six”, weekdays 6-7pm., starting Monday Oct.26th…tune in and catch a guy who actually LIVED it, play the tunes from the most exciting decade of music in a Zoomer’s lifetime.

Hmmm, wanna know what I’m up to in my next Vintage Favourites show this Sunday (Oct.25) ?  The 80th anniversary of the Stock Market Crash of 1929 is coming up next week; so I’ll play some of the best songs of The Roaring Twenties (when the party was swinging) and the Dirty Thirties (the party ended Oct.29th, 1929).   So – that’s this Sunday 2-4pm.

On a personal note – you know I’m a big fan of movies – let me give you a couple tips:  if you can still catch it, go see ‘The Cove’ – a documentary/thriller about a seaside town in Japan where they drive dolphins into a trapped area (the cove) and slaughter them. It’s a hard-hitting, but necessary film to see – no need for mercury-polluted dolphin-meat which is what (sadly) these animals have become – yet Japan continues to sell it worldwide.  And what a challenge it was to film this movie, overcoming government, and local, resistance – the harshest parts of the movie are pretty brief, the rest of it is terrific and exciting story-telling.

My other film tip is “An Education” – I caught it at the recent TIFF, and it opens in theatres soon.  It’s a fun, entertaining, and worthy film.  See it.

Catch you next time. Gene
