It’s ‘Father’s Day’ this Sunday. Whether your dad is ‘here’ or not, it’s a great day to reflect on fatherhood. There are countless quotes about ‘fathers’ from the practical: “My father taught me that the only way you can be good at anything is to practice, and then practice some more.” (Pete Rose) … to the poignant: “How true Daddy’s words were when he said: ‘All children must look after their own upbringing.” (Anne Frank).
… the profound: “My father told me there’s no difference between a black snake and a white snake. They both bite.” (Ist African-American US Supreme Court judge Thurgood Marshall) … and the hilarious: “I can always count on getting one thing for Father’s Day – all the bills from Mother’s Day.” (Milton Berle).
And there are plenty of songs about dad as well – I’ve picked a couple dozen from superstars like John Lennon, Elton John, Eric Clapton and Neil Young … some old, some recent, some heart-breaking, and some joyous. So, tune in this Sunday at 2:00 for ‘The Father’s Day Edition’ of Vintage Favourites.
(OK, one more: “When I was 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in 7 years.” (Mark Twain).
