One Hit Wonders Rule!....Right?

They call them ‘One Hit Wonders’ – recording artists who managed to score just one hit, and not any more.  There are hundreds of such artists – and, as my pal Robbie Lane, who doesn’t really like the term, says: ‘…and how many hits have YOU had ?‘ It’s a good point – most of us would be delighted to have even one hit record, one moment in the sunshine.
But, there is an actual annual event called ‘One Hit Wonder Day’ – it’s every year on September 25th – you can Google the details for yourself. So, I thought it’d be fascinating to do some deep research into Billboard charts, and discover ‘The All-Time, Top Ten, One-Hit Wonders‘ – and play them for you, complete with their stories.
These are the most extreme examples: artists who had one massive #1 charting pop hit, and NEVER again had a follow-up; not even a teeny-weeny low-charting peep. Nothing more … ‘one and done’. They make for fascinating stories, as well as instantly familiar ‘oh wow’ songs.  That’ll be in the first hour of this Sunday’s Vintage Favourites – September 23rd.
Then, birthday spotlights on 3 major artists who are most definitely NOT ‘one-hit wonders’ – Olivia Newton-John about to turn 70, plus Canadian guitar legend Randy Bachman turning 75, and Toronto’s own Amy Sky. I’ve known Amy for a couple decades and have loved playing her songs, which I’ll do again this Sunday at 4pm.  Here’s a snap from a few years ago with Amy and my girlfriend (Trudy – ‘blonde’). Cheers.
