By now I’m sure you’ve seen, heard and thought of the major 50th anniversary of the landmark Apollo 11 Moon Mission of July 1969. There have been movies and TV specials to tweak your personal memories of that event (if you’re old enough) and to impress you of how monumental a moment that was (if you’re younger).  I did my little bit with last Sunday’s ‘Vintage Favourites‘ spotlight on songs of space travel – from earthmen (‘Space Oddity‘ and ‘Rocket Man‘) to visitors from beyond (‘Mr. Spaceman‘ and ‘I’m a Stranger Here’) and from ‘Star Trek‘ to ‘Star Drek‘ (funny novelty bit). But that was last week – “what about this Sunday“, you ask.

The moon has inspired poets and song-writers over the centuries. J.R.R. Tolkien said: ‘Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars.’, and Shakespeare wrote in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ ‘Do not swear by the moon, for she changes constantly, and then your love would also change.’ I’ll feature classic ‘moon songs’ from ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond‘ ; from crooners to rockers, and smooth talkers to hopeless romantics. It’s ‘The Moon Songs‘ edition of ‘Vintage Favourites‘.

I’ll also continue my year-long spotlight on the ‘greatest groups of our time – in alphabetical order‘ with one of Motown’s best – Martha Reeves & The Vandellas; plus birthday salutes to Canadians Ken Tobias and Ian Thomas.  That’s all on the next ‘Vintage Favourites‘, this Sunday (July 21) between 2:00 and 4:30pm. I hope you’ll tune in.  Cheers.
