And suddenly it’s over – our summer comes to an end – sort of – with the Labour Day weekend. Oh sure, the calendar tells us there’s still 3 more weeks left, but it feels different. So it’s time again for my annual ‘Labour Day Work Songs Edition’ of ‘Vintage Favourites’. This time, I can spend some more time with those songs from ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond’, exploring the rich tradition of ‘work songs’ from teenage rock’n’roll novelty songs to some biting satire from 1960s British artists.
I’m also continuing the year-long feature on ‘the greatest groups of our time – in alphabetical order’, bringing us to the letter ‘Q’, and the legendary band Queen. On the Canadian counterpart I’ll shine the light on Robbie Lane and The Disciples – always a delight to spotlight our own Robbie Lane. So, don’t miss the Labour Day edition of the show. Cheers.
