A Closer Look at Sound-Alike Songs and Artists

As a music fan, I’m sure you’ve noticed how some acts sound a lot like another artist, or you’ve heard songs that sound very similar.  There have even been famous court cases of songs that were copied (intentionally, or not).  Sometimes the effect is quite eerie as in the case of those singers who tried to sound like Elvis Presley.  There have been many other examples of acts like Neil Young and America, or John – and son Julian – Lennon, or Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole. Those are just a few of the many ‘Sound-Alike Songs and Artists’ – in my next ‘Vintage Favourites’ spotlight.  You’ll be amazed at how some artists tried to ‘borrow’ or ‘steal’ a song, and others who had no idea they were copying, as in the case of George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord‘.  This will be a fascinating feature.

I’ll also continue my year-long spotlight on ‘the greatest groups of our time – in alphabetical order’, with the 70s soul group – The Spinners.  And, as always, I’ll start the show with a dip into ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond‘ – highlighted by some successful Elvis sound-alikes, and a 6 minute novelty song that imitated some famous acts of the 50s.  That’s all on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday (Oct.20th) from 2:00 to 4:30pm. – hosted by yours truly – the real Gene Stevens, and not a copycat.  Cheers !
