I’ve been holding onto an idea for a special edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ for awhile now. And I think this may be a good time to do it. ‘The Top 20 Songs of the 20th Century’ – just feels right to do this on Sunday, the day before January 20th, 2020. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) compiled this special list soon after the new millennium began, in an effort to – as they said: ‘promote a better understanding of America’s musical and cultural heritage.’

It really is a terrific list, representing the very best songs, with the greatest impact, from across all the decades of the 20th century. And the top 20 songs may well surprise you. There’s everything from ragtime and jazz classics to big band swing, early rock’n’roll, folk, soul and even Broadway and the British Invasion – all crammed into the top 20. Due to the length of some of the songs, I’ll have to move things along quickly, and speak a little less, in order to get them all in between 3 and 4:30pm. This will be one of those ‘can’t miss’ programs – so I hope you’ll plan to tune in.

It’s this Sunday (Jan.19th), and it starts with our usual first hour feature on ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond’, from 2:00 to 3:00pm. That’s on the next edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’ on Zoomer Radio.
