Some Grammy Award Greats

I’ve always loved award shows – and, being a music and movie fan, my two favourites are The Oscars and Grammys. Oscars will be handed out on February 9th, but this Sunday (Jan.26) it’s the 62nd annual Grammy Awards. The awards – as music itself – have changed over the decades. In its early years, Grammy was conservative, and ignored rock’n’roll. The evolving pop scene forced the awards to modernize, and in recent years Grammy has eagerly embraced the hip-hop generation.

When taking the long look over the 6 decades, there are some outstanding achievements that make for a fascinating edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’. Can you guess who were the youngest and oldest winners, and who are the only two artists to win all 4 of the ‘big ones’ (Record, Album, Song and Best New Artist of the Year) ? What two albums each won 9 awards – the most ever ? Or how about the most Grammys by a Group, Male and Female Artist ?

The answers to these are other questions will be revealed on ‘Grammy Greats’ – on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ … along with our usual first-hour spotlight on ‘The Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond’, and wrapping it all up with a birthday spotlight on Sarah McLauchlan. That’s this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:30 … tune in for this ‘award-winning show’.
