Every year as we approach the first week of March, I think of our city’s ‘birthday’ – actually, the anniversary of our incorporation as a ‘city’ – March 6th, 1834. And I marvel at how Toronto has changed – and keeps changing – as any modern metropolis does.  Admittedly, not always ‘for the better’, as we lose defining heritage buildings or expand further into an ever-shrinking ‘natural world’.  But it’s ‘home’ – and we love it.  So, I salute the city and celebrate our urban lifestyle, with a selection of familiar city-songs about Toronto – and, while there aren’t as many as some other cities have – there are some excellent ones nonetheless. So join me for ‘Toronto Songs’ – including a fond look back at the ‘Toronto Sound’ of the 1960s.
For our first hour’s spotlight on ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ I’ll take us back to that ‘thrilling’ night at the Grammys when Michael Jackson set the record winning 8 awards; to the first day of filming the Beatles’ first movie; the 65th anniversary of the release of Sinatra’s defining album – the one many critics call his best.  Plus: Elton John’s first UK single – you may have never heard it – and the three country stars who died in a plane crash this week in 1963 – reminiscent of rock’n’roll’s ‘day the music died’.  I hope you’ll tune in to ‘Vintage Favourites‘ this Sunday (Feb.28) from 1:00 to 4:30pm.
