VINTAGE COMEDY FAVOURITES!

In the course of doing research for this show, I came across a few related items that inspired my next edition of ‘Vintage Favourites’.  This is the 70th anniversary of the debut of the iconic ‘I Love Lucy’ TV show in October 1951. And this month is the third anniversary of the opening of the National Comedy Centre August 1st, 2018 in Jamestown, New York.  That’s the birthplace of Lucille Ball – who came into the world August 6th 1911 – 110 years ago this month.

With a little chuckle to myself along with great memories of watching Lucy’s TV shows – it occurred to me that I’ve never featured famous – or vintage – comedy on the show.  ‘Vintage Favourites’ – now in its 14th year, with 750 music-related themed editions – has on occasion featured novelty songs. Some of those were certainly funny – especially in their day.  But this will be a ‘first’ – ‘Vintage Comedy Favourites’ – spotlighting some of the classic routines of Abbott & Costello, Wayne & Shuster, The Smothers Brothers, Rodney Dangerfield, Steve Martin, George Carlin and Monty Python too.  We’re due for a good laugh – right ?

During my first hour’s feature: ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – we’ll recall the great rock’n’roll composer Jerry Leiber, the Beatles’ only manager – Brian Epstein, the Who’s drummer Keith Moon and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ – ‘Fingertips’.  Stevie Wonder was not only one of the youngest to ever hit #1, but with ‘Fingertips – Part 2’, he was the first to go to the top with a live recording.  Most radio stations only play the ‘hit version’ – ‘Part Two’ – but this time, you’ll hear the entire live performance of ‘Fingertips – Parts One and Two’. And we’ll wrap up the show with a birthday spotlight on Shania Twain.  Join me for the great music, the fascinating stories – and this time, the laughs as well – on ‘Vintage Favourites’ Sunday (Aug.22) at 2pm.
