DECEMBER SONGS

As we approach mid-December and the formal start of winter (Dec.21), our thoughts turn to both the joys and challenges of the season. As always there is music that just seems to fit the moment(s). I’ve curated a nice list of ten ‘December Songs’ to get us in the mood.  And they run the gamut of the many moods we feel – reflecting the sadness of relationships lost, to the thrill of new-found love and the warmest of embraces. It’s all there in the songs of Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Tony Bennett and many others.

I’m also saluting the late great drummer for Lighthouse – Skip Prokop, and reviewing a vast range of music genres factoring into ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘. Imagine an hour with country pioneer Wilf Carter, big band legend Glenn Miller, guitar wizard Jimi Hendrix, and three Jersey-stars each born December 12th: Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis and Dionne Warwick. They’re all part of this week’s feature, along with ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Good Vibrations’ – once called the most complex and brilliant music production of all time. It took months to create, hundreds of thousands of dollars spent in four LA studios, and upon its release was literally unplayable live on stage.  But it was a masterpiece, and a deserving #1 hit 55 years ago this week.  I’ll take you into its fascinating story and even play you an early version of it while ‘under construction’.

That’s all on the next Vintage Favourites this Sunday at 2:00 – 4:30. (Dec.12th).
