GOOD LUCK SONGS’ for SHOW #777

I’m not a gambler, I don’t buy lottery tickets, and my favourite part of a casino is the live performer (if there is one).  But I do know that getting three ‘sevens’ on a slot machine is a very good thing.  So as I was coming up to the 777th edition of “Vintage Favourites”, I was wondering how I might mark the milestone. There’s the common superstition that ‘7’ is a good luck number.  I’m not superstitious either – but it’s fun to celebrate good luck.

So I’m going with seven songs of good luck to mark this milestone in Vintage Favourites’ near-15 year history.  Rat Packers, Elvis and a Beatle will provide the songs.  I hope you’ll tune in. There’ll be other features including salutes to Carole King on her upcoming 80th birthday, to Nikki Yanofsky on her 28th, and to Stompin’ Tom Connors on what would’ve been his 86th.

Plus: ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ recalls the first time Elvis sang his first big hit ‘Heartbreak Hotel‘, on television. It’s an unusual, and unique, treatment with the backing of the Dorsey orchestra – imagine a blending of primal rock’n’roll with a swinging big band.  A hot mess, but one fascinating version. Only a few years later The Beatles made their historic debut on North American television appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show.  And our ‘Story Behind the Song‘ features Whitney Houston’s landmark hit ‘I Will Always Love You’. Not only was that the #1 song 19 years ago this week, but this week also marks the tenth anniversary of Whitney’s sudden and tragic death.

I hope you’ll tune for ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday (Feb.6th). Cheers.
