WHAT IS LOVE’ – A VINTAGE VALENTINE
Valentine’s Day is Monday, and I’ll get us in the mood – musically. I’ve taken on the challenge to answer the timeless question: ‘What is Love ?‘ With so many who are much-better qualified, I thought the best approach would be to gather some of the great poets and songwriters and look for the answers in their songs. From jazz and classic pop, to rock’n’roll, and R&B – Sinatra to Cohen and Motown – we’ll find that love is strange and crazy, and like a heatwave, it can warm us and burn us.
During the first hour’s ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘, we’ll recall Adele’s huge night at The Grammys ten years ago this week, and tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song’ that defined Ray Charles as the ‘genius’ – ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ – a perfect blending of soul with country and western. Ray recorded that heartbreaking love song that day after Valentine’s Day 60 years ago. It would become his all-time biggest hit – and a fascinating story. Please join me this Sunday at 2pm.
