LOST HITS OF THE EARLY SIXTIES

A few weeks ago I started a recurring series that takes us on musical expeditions to locate ‘The Lost Hits’.  That previous feature searched for ‘The Lost Hits of the Fifties‘ – this next feature takes us to the early Sixties for the ‘lost hits’ of that era.  Just to clarify – these ‘lost hits’ range from so-called ‘forgotten favourites’ we haven’t heard in years, to well-remembered hits that we know well.  So what makes these ‘lost hits’?  I’ve looked at the Billboard Hot 100 weekly charts – the ‘bible of the music business’ – for those songs which failed to achieve even a Top 20 peak. There are several quite amazing songs – musical gems – which didn’t even chart in the top 20. And they make for some great listening. I invite you to join me on this musical adventure searching for ‘The Lost Hits of the Early Sixties‘.

I’ll also have a 6-song salute to artists from Vancouver – in honour of that city’s incorporation April 6th – next week – in 1886.  Our first-hour spotlight – ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – remembers several legendary albums: from the ‘West Side Story’ soundtrack that started its year-long hold on #1 this week in 1962, to Bob Dylan’s ‘Nashville Skyline’  and Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’. Their #1 charting hit from the album – ‘Dreams’ – is featured in our ‘Story Behind the Song‘. And there’s more – so I hope you’ll tune in for ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:30.  Cheers.
