Baseball’s back, as the 2022 season is underway. There have been more songs recorded about baseball than any other sport, and I’ve gathered a dozen of ’em for this special ‘home-run’ edition of Vintage Favourites. The songs go back as far as the turn of the last century, to baseball’s early legend about ‘Casey at the Bat‘, plus several all-star players immortalized in song. It’s a ton of fun and our main spotlight.
I’ll also salute Toronto’s Molly Johnson on her birthday, and bring back several memories when I check into ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘. The Rolling Stones’ first album and the Beatles’ break-up are just two of the big events along with ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’. Jerry Lee recorded his classic 65 years ago this week – but his wasn’t the first version of the song. I’ll also play you the rarely-heard original version by Big Maybelle. I think you’ll love it. So ‘let’s play ball’ – and have a ball – with the next Vintage Favourites, this Sunday at 2pm.
