SALUTING MONTREAL

Next week – May 17th – marks the 380th anniversary of the founding of Montreal, as the French settlement first called ‘Ville Marie’ on the south shore of the island. The city has such a rich musical tradition encompassing everything from jazz to pop and rock, that I look forward to featuring 15 amazing artists each born in Montreal.  We’ll hear the legendary Oscar Peterson, the iconic Leonard Cohen, one of the world’s top-selling artists Celine Dion, and the first rock’n’roll hit recorded in a Canadian studio … plus Arcade Fire, Robert Charlesbois. Corey Hart and others.

Plus: ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ remembers two landmark albums: Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ and the 50th anniversary of Elton John’s ‘Honky Chateau’.  We’ll go back to Frank Sinatra’s funeral, and salute two disco legends who died in the same week ten years ago: Robin Gibb and Donna Summer.  And ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ features Chuck Berry’s first hit, recorded this week in 1955 – ‘Maybellene’.   I hope you’ll tune in this Sunday (May 15th) from 2:00 to 4:30.
