UFO’s and 75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROSWELL INCIDENT
During the first days of July 1947, some unusual events in New Mexico, led to what would be called ‘The Roswell Incident’, and the birth of the modern UFO Era. Farmer Mac Brazel had found strange debris scattered across his ranch, considered a possible connection with recent reports of ‘silvery flying discs’, and reported it to the local sheriff who informed the nearby Roswell Army airfield. A most unusual press release followed from the military that a flying saucer had crashed – soon denied, with the story changing and eventually morphing into alien visitors, a government cover-up, and decades of growing suspicion that ‘we are not alone’.
The UFO phenomenon inspired books, movies, TV shows – and of course plenty of musical references. Join me for a fascinating hour with songs and stories of what might possibly be ‘out there’, and perhaps ‘right here’ as well. Songs from Ella Fitzgerald and John Williams to David Bowie; some novelty rock’n’roll, and some thought-provoking songs.
Plus: a birthday salute to Robbie Robertson and remembering Big Rude Jake. And in the show’s first hour (2-3pm.), ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ recalls the historic first commercial recording by Elvis Presley – the one Rolling Stone magazine called ‘The Big Bang of Rock’n’Roll’. plus the tragic deaths of two icons on the same day, exactly two years apart – Brian Jones and Jim Morrison, and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ – ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, which Bob Dylan recorded 60 years ago next week.
That’s all on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ – Sunday, July 3rd, from 2:00 to 4:30.
