REMEMBERING MARILYN MONROE 60 YEARS AFTER HER DEATH

The shocking discovery of Marilyn Monroe’s dead body in her bedroom 60 years ago  (Aug.5, 1962), ended the screen icon’s life and career. But her legend – as Elton John later sang –  continues to burn brightly. I’ve put together a great hour of Marilyn’s best songs from her films, and I hope you’ll join me in saluting Hollywood’s most famous female film icon.

Next week also marks another – much happier – anniversary. It was 65 years ago on August 5th, 1957 when ‘American Bandstand’ debuted on network television across the US and Canada., bringing the day’s best pop stars and rock’n’roll icons into our daily living rooms.  I’ll take an interesting perspective on this item, spotlighting the Canadian artists who appeared on ‘American Bandstand’ in the show’s first ten years. The Canadians on ‘American Bandstand’ were some of our first major pop stars – and appearing on Dick Clark’s show was an ‘almost’ sure-fire way to establish an international image. Who were those first Canadians on Bandstand – tune in to find out.

Plus: an amazing variety of artists highlighted in the show’s first hour: ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – ranging from Louis Armstrong and Tony Bennett, to Elvis, The Beatles, The Band, Grateful Dead and even The Spice Girls !  And ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ takes us back to the August 1st, 1939 recording of the Swing Era’s defining song: ‘In the Mood’.  Like I said – ‘amazing variety’ – please join me this Sunday at 2pm.
