THE BIGGEST HITS OF A HALF-CENTURY – THE SEVENTIES

We’ve been tracing music history during a 50 year period with the five-part series: ‘The Biggest Hits of a Half-Century‘ – the top song of each year between 1940 and 1989.  And this Sunday (Oct. 9th) we reach the Seventies with ten terrific songs from pop and rock to disco and new wave.

This Sunday also marks the anniversary of John Lennon’s birth in 1940, and the 25th anniversary of John Denver’s death.  I’ll salute them both, along with the late Frank Busseri – the leader of Toronto’s Four Lads – the first Canadian vocal group to reach international success. Frank was born 90 years ago. I’ll also tell the ‘Story Behind the Song‘ – ‘It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky-Tonk Angels’ – when Kitty Wells became the first woman to ever have a #1 charting country hit – that was 70 years ago.
