‘Tis the season – but not quite yet. Before we get to our annual ‘Christmas Edition’ (coming up December 18th), let’s set the scene with some ‘Winter Songs’ first. I’ve got a dozen wonderful winter songs including some that don’t even mention Christmas, yet became Christmas Classics. I’ll dabble into several music genres from Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot ‘Canadiana’ classics to Phil Spector’s ‘wall-of-sound’ Christmas music, Merle Haggard’s country and easy listening favourites by Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Englebert Humperdinck.
I’ll also have a half-hour salute to Burton Cummings who has a milestone 75th birthday coming up on December 31st. And, in our first hour’s feature – ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – I’ll remember Glenn Miller who disappeared this week in 1944, Sam Cooke who was killed this week in 1964, and tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by the Bee Gees, as we note the 45th anniversary of the premiere of ‘Saturday NIght Fever’.
Please join me for ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:30.
