THE SOUNDS OF ’73’ – PART TWO

We started a three-part series celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘The Sounds of ’73‘ last Sunday, and I’ll continue with ‘Part Two’ this Sunday (June 4). Among the highlights are the only two artists who each had two #1 hits on The Billboard Hot 100 that year. One was just starting what would later be called ‘his golden era’ of huge hits and Grammy winners; the other was finally breaking through, only to be cruelly cut down by fate, dying in a plane crash.

Beatles fans were coming to grips with their recent break-up in 1970 – but still hoped for a reunion that never came. Instead each of the former Fab Four were doing well on the charts as solo artists, and I’ll play one from each of them.

The show’s first-hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ will sweep us from the 1930s through the 90s, with songs that were chart-toppers: Benny Goodman and The Ink Spots through Roy Orbison, Aretha Franklin, and Bryan Adams. Plus ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘My Love’ – Paul McCartney’s ode to his wife, Linda; top song 50 years ago this week.  Please join me this Sunday 2:00 – 4:30pm.
