Labour Day marks the winding down of summer vacations and the return to routine. But Labour Day has always had another, very important function – saluting the worker. It’s become a Vintage Favourites annual tradition to spotlight songs of work – from classics to lesser-known songs, and this Sunday’s ‘Labour Day Work Songs Edition’ is no different. I’ll play a dozen songs inspired by the factory, the mine, the fields and the office.
From Pete Seeger and Stompin’ Tom Connors to Bruce Springsteen and Dolly Parton; a light-hearted Disney memory and a sobering rally cry for solidarity. I hope you’ll make time in your holiday weekend, to tune in for a fascinating edition of the show.
I’ll also have a Michael Buble birthday spotlight and our usual first hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ will take us from Fred Astaire to ‘The King of Pop’, who credited Astaire as an inspiration – Michael Jackson, along with The Supremes and Rolling Stones and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Sweet Dreams are Made of This’. Happy Labour Day Weekend !
