Founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy turns 84 today (born November 28 1929) and in celebration of his day, we’ve rounded up the top ten Motown artists and their hits:

10. Dancing in the Street – Martha & Vandellas (Martha Reeves started as receptionist at Motown)

9. Three Times a Lady – Lionel Richie & The Commodores

8. I’ll Be There – Michael & The Jackson Five

7. Reach Out I’ll Be There – The Four Tops

6. Tears of a Clown – Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (one-time VP of company; Dylan called him ‘America’s Greatest Living Poet’)

5. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Diana Ross (as a solo artist)

4. Where Did Our Love Go – Diana Ross & Supremes (this was 1st of their 12 #1 hits during 1960s)

3. My Girl – The Temptations (Motown’s most successful male group)

2. I Heard it Thru the Grapevine – Marvin Gaye

1. Uptight – Stevie Wonder (started as 12 year old “wonder” with ‘Fingertips’ as 1st #1 hit – still going strong)
