I am walking in memory of my Mom who died of bladder cancer on May 1, 2012. Sandy Brown fought her disease for 3 tireless years, but ultimately had no choice but to give in, months ahead of her 69th birthday. She was far too young to go and had so much to live for, including 9 grandchildren. My efforts, and those of my team mates, will help ensure other people like my Mom have a greater chance of survival.
There have been no new significant advances in bladder cancer in more than 20 years. And yet bladder cancer is the fifth most deadly form of cancer to affect Canadians. Funding for bladder cancer research is also only a fraction of what other “more popular” cancers receive.
I have been a cancer research fundraiser since 2006. For 3 years, I captained a Run for the Cure team. And in 3 additional years, I co-captained a team with Libby Znaimer and Leanne Wright for The Weekend To End Women’s Cancers. Our supporters helped raise some $140,000 for cancer research. Now it’s time for me to fight the disease that took my Mom.
I would also like to extend a big thank you to my supportive company, ZoomerMedia Ltd, for sponsoring my team!
Thank you for making a donation! Big or small, it is greatly appreciated!
