Name: Joenie
Age: 5 Years, 4 Months
Breed: Shepherd Mix

Joenie comes with free post-adoption support!

Joenie is ready for a fresh start with some outdoor-loving humans who share his appreciation for nature, naps, and wrestling.

Friendly and full of beans, Joenie is really just an old soul who prefers quiet streets and hang outs on the patio. He has been through a lot in his life and had a pretty hard puppyhood. The whole “human” thing threw him for a loop. He can be very anxious in certain situations and reacts negatively when scared, but he has come SO far and is looking forward to continuing his training with his new family.

Joenie would be perfect for outdoorsy humans somewhere just outside of the busy city. He’s a sensitive guy who needs lots of time and space to adjust. He can be unsure about certain types of handling. He enjoys having a bit of space, ESPECIALLY when he is eating. He has a tendency to guard things he sees as his, particularly his favourite toys and tasty treats. Remember, he didn’t have the best puppyhood. He hopes his humans will be patient with him as he slowly gets to know you.

It is important to note that while Joenie is making progress with his amazing foster parents, he will likely always be a little sensitive around people. He is not the type of boy you can hug from behind. He likes knowing where he is, who he’s with, and where he’s going. He’s such a good boy at heart. He just needs to know he is safe.

The ideal home for this boy is quiet, lowkey, and low traffic. Other pets are okay with slow, supervised introductions, but his humans should be on the mature side – 18 and up. Most importantly, his humans should be calm, patient, and willing to help him on his journey.

Joenie did not have what you would call a traditional upbringing. There was no structure, no security, and no humans. He was rescued and brought into our care, but it has been quite a journey.

He’s really come around to this whole “being a dog” thing. He has made strides with his trainers and, most recently, his amazing foster parent. He loves playing and being in the company of those he trusts. If he had you in his life, along with the time and the structure he needs, he would continue to gain confidence and grow to become your lifetime sidekick.
