It’s hard to believe, but this is the seventh year in a row, I am walking in memory of my Mom who died of bladder cancer on May 1, 2012. Sandy Brown fought this disease for 3 tireless years, but passed away at the age of 68. She was far too young to go and had so much to live for, including 9 grandchildren. My efforts, and those of my team mates, will help ensure other people like my Mom have a greater chance of survival! In fact, we’ve seen a positive impact since the Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk began in ensuring that people catch bladder cancer early! Remember when you see red in your urine, see your doctor!
Bladder cancer is the fifth most deadly form of cancer to affect Canadians, and yet funding for bladder cancer research is also only a fraction of what other “more popular” cancers receive. And that’s why the money raised form the Walk is so vital to support bladder cancer research and patient support.
I have been a cancer research fundraiser since 2006, with a special focus on advocacy for Bladder Cancer Canada since 2015. During this time, my team has raised nearly $50,000! We’re aiming for a grand total of $60,000 in 2021!!
I would also like to extend a big thank you to my supportive company, ZoomerMedia Ltd, for sponsoring my team for the annual Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk, which is once again being held in small groups on the weekend of September 25th/26th because of the pandemic.
Thank you for making a donation! Big or small, it is greatly appreciated!
