Coming up this Saturday on Finding Your Bliss, Life Coach and Bliss Expert Judy Librach is joined by acclaimed culinary teacher and cookbook author extraordinaire, Bonnie Stern, along with her daughter, speech pathologist Anna Rupert, to talk about their fabulous new book, “Don’t Worry, Just Cook”!

Bonnie Stern is the founder of the Bonnie Stern School of Cooking in Toronto, which she opened and operated from 1973 to 2011. She has studied and taught cooking around the world, hosted three national cooking shows, and for 17 years, wrote a weekly column for the National Post. She has conducted popular workshops for the James Beard Foundation in New York City and leads culinary tours to various delicious destinations.

Bonnie is also the creator of a groundbreaking book club in which authors are invited to discuss their work during thematic dinners. She has authored 12 bestselling cookbooks, including “Bonnie Stern’s Essentials of Home Cooking”, which won a coveted International Association of Culinary Professionals award. Bonnie is the recipient of many awards, including the Ontario Hostelry Institute’s Gold Award, the Premier’s Award, and, in 2021, Bonnie was inducted into the Taste Canada Hall of Fame.

In addition to being Bonnie’s daughter and sous-chef, Anna Rupert is a speech-language pathologist, health and social care manager, researcher, and consultant in Toronto. Anna holds Master’s degrees in

Speech-Language Pathology and International Health Policy from the University of Toronto and the London School of Economics, respectively. Anna’s research and consulting has focused on the inclusion of rehabilitation services (like speech pathology) in global health systems, health system funding and planning, and the relationship between early childhood mental health, childhood trauma, and communication development. Clearly, she has multiple interests! Anna has been cooking with Bonnie since she was able to sit unsupported on the kitchen counter and hold a wooden spoon (there is photo evidence). This is her first book.

Also on the program, we have the Founding Artistic Director of Unsung Heroes, Neal Dlin, along with the President and Chief Scientist of the Baycrest Academy, Dr. Allison Sekuler, to talk about their latest upcoming production “Unsung Heroes 9: Memories – A Musical Review Supporting Alzheimer’s and Dementia in support of Baycrest – Fear No Age”.

Neal Dlin is the Founder and President of Chorus Tree Inc., a consulting firm specializing in customer experience, employee experience and contact centre strategy and operations. Neal has been recognized as a thought leader in this space by ICMI for the last three years running. 10 years ago, Neal founded Unsung Heroes Productions (UHP) in honour of his late mother Barbara, a single mother who raised three kids in poverty. Since its inception, UHP has produced 11 productions and has donated over $600,000 to its charity partners in the areas of poverty, cancer and mental health. This year, Neal is producing Unsung Heroes 9 entitled “Memories for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research and Treatments at Baycrest.” Neal is also a proud husband and father of four children as well as a newly appointed member of the board of Jewish Family and Child Services.

Dr. Allison Sekuler is the Sandra Rotman Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and President and Chief Scientist of the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education and the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation. A graduate of Pomona College (BA) and the University of California, Berkeley (PhD), Dr. Sekuler holds faculty positions at the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Her foundational research uses behavioural and neuroimaging approaches to understand how the brain processes visual information, with specific interests in face perception, motion processing, perceptual learning, neural plasticity, aging, and neurotechnology; and her clinical and translational research aims to develop methods to prevent, detect, and treat age-related sensory and cognitive decline.

Dr. Sekuler has won numerous national and international awards for research, teaching, and leadership — including serving as the country’s first Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and recently being named one of WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada (2019).

We will also be featuring music with some of the members of the cast of Unsung Heroes, including the superb vocals of Joanna Pearl, Ari Blicker, Lainie Elton, and Tara Burke, and featuring Andrew Ball (the show’s Musical Director) on piano!
