Poultry lovers lined up Sunday in Toronto to pick up a free turkey for Christmas.

Some staked out their spot in the line outside Honest Ed’s as early as Friday, two days before the annual giveaway.

The iconic store at Bloor and Bathurst Streets handed out more than 6,000 kilograms of turkey starting at 10 a.m.

The tradition began in 1987 with the late Ed Mirvish, the store’s founder and namesake.

It’s now being carried out by his son David.

The event typically draws such a massive crowd that police are on site to ensure it goes smoothly.
