A Toronto District School Board trustee has been critically hurt in a house fire in the city’s west end.

Fire officials say flames broke out in the kitchen around 7:30 p.m. Saturday and then spread through the house on High Park Boulevard near Parkside Drive and The Queensway.

Spokesman Stephan Powell says firefighters pulled two people out of the house
which is divided into apartments, and performed CPR.

The school board says one of them is trustee Irene Atkinson.

Director Donna Quan says the thoughts of all trustees and staff are with Atkinson and her family.

Paramedics says Atkinson was rushed to hospital with severe smoke inhilation.

Atkinson represents Parkdale-High Park  — Ward 7.
