The pope called for peace in the traditional Easter Sunday papal message.

After celebrating his first Easter Mass as pontiff, Francis said conflicts have lasted too long in Syria and the Middle East and called for re-unification on the Korean peninsula.

Before a crowd of 250-thousand in St. Peter’s Square he also denounced warfare and terrorism in Africa.

Christians also gathered for Easter services in the Holy Land.

Worshippers  prayed in the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, built on the site where tradition holds Jesus was crucified, briefly entombed and then resurrected.
