If you’re familiar with the story of the Titanic, or perhaps saw the motion picture, you know that the band played on; and went down with the ship.
The mighty ship’s bandmaster Wallace Hartley played the violin, and now his historic instrument has been auctioned off in England for a record $1,454,400 US.
The previous record price for a Titanic-related item was $340,00 US. The auction house says it went to a British buyer.
It took many years for experts to authenticate the violin that ended up in the North Atlantic in 1912.
It isn’t playable any more, and it was set to be auctioned for just under $500,000. US.
