Opera singer Rolando Villazon has returned to the Metropolitan Opera Saturday, as the headstrong poet Lenski in a new production of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.”

It’s a milestone for the famed Mexican tenor, nearly five years after losing his voice in mid-performance, leading to the discovery of a congenital cyst lodged on one of his vocal cords.

Villazon went through risky surgery and a lengthy recovery, including a time when he actually had to learn how to speak before singing again. 

He’ll sing in five performances of “Eugene Onegin” beginning Saturday.
