UNICEF wants to see Canada lead the way in a campaign to end the forced marriage of young girls.
UN official Susan Bissell has praised Stephen Harper’s government for its foreign policy initiative on the issue.
The praise comes even though the Conservative government is against projects that allow victims to have access to abortions, and does not allow aid dollars go to organizations that offer abortions to war-rape victims or other victimized girls.
Bissell says UNICEF can work around the Canadian government’s policy.
