A Malaysia Airlines jet en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing has disappeared from radar screens. The Boeing 7-77 had 239 people on board, including two Canadians,  identified as 42 year-old mining company executive Muktesh Mukherjee and his wife Xiaomo Bai.  Officials say about two-thirds of those on board are Chinese citizens. Air force planes from Vietnam say they’ve spotted two large oil slicks off the southern tip of Vietnam. While there is no confirmation they’re from the missing aircraft, a Vietnamese government statement says they are consistent with the type of oil slicks that would be produced by the plane’s two large engines.

The airline says the pilots apparently did not send a distress call, leading them to believe that whatever happened occured suddenly.
