The achievements and the struggles faced by women were celebrated Saturday as part of International Women’s Day.
Thousands of people – women, children and men – took part at special events across the country and around the world.
International Women’s Day is recognized by the United Nations..
In Ottawa, Prime Minister Stephen Harper noted the special achievements of Canadian women, specifically the contributions of women entrepreneurs.
In Paris, police arrested six women who demonstrated in the nude outside the Louvre Museum to the applause of tourists.
A protestor said the demonstration was connected to Women’s Day, and that they wanted to draw attention to restrictions on women in the Muslim world.
