The minimum wage in Ontario is now higher by 75 cents.

That’s the first time it’s gone up in four years.

Premier Kathleeen Wynne says increases in the future will be tied to the rate of inflation.  Rate increses would be announced on April 1st of each year, with the rate taking effect on October 1st.

Full-time minimum wage earners would still be making about 20 percent below the poverty line.

Labour groups and anti-poverty activists say they would like to see the minimum wage go to 14 dollars an hour.
