If Scots vote for independence, it could mean scientific research could suffer.

So say a trio of British academics in a letter to Saturday’s Times of London in which they argue that collaboration and the links between scientists in Scotland and the rest of Britain would be endangered.

The presidents of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the British Academy and the Royal Society say that scientific research both in Scotland and the rest of the U.K. would suffer.  And they suggest that taxes  in Scotland would have to increase in order to keep research funding at current levels.

On September 18th Scotland will vote on weather to break up its alliance with England.
