Toronto City Council is being asked to push for a change to some of the words in our National Anthem.

Councillor Ceta Ramkhalawansingh wants council to vote on requesting the federal government to change the the words “all thy sons” to “all of us.”

Ramkhalawansingh, who describes herself as a feminist,  is an interim councillor who was appointed to the seat to replace Adam Vaughn who ran successfully in a fedearl byelection.

Mayor Rob Ford says it’s a waste of time to discus the issue, and that it’s a job for federal politicians.  Mayoralty candidate John Tory says he too is against bringing it up in council.  So is fellow candidate Olivia Chow, but she says she supports changing the words.

It’s council’s last meeting on Monday before the October municipal election, and there are over 400 items on its agenda.
