Sunday marked the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
November 9th 1989 was the beginning of the end of the infamous structure that was built in 1961 to prevent East Germans from crossing into West Berlin and freedom.
Ninety-eight people were shot by East German border guards when they tried to climb the wall, tunnel under it, or ram their way through a border crossing.
To this day the fall of the Berlin Wall is the powerful symbol of the end of the Cold War.
Celebrations with concerts, fireworks and special ceremonies have taken place Sunday to commemorate the anniversary of Germany’s reunification and new beginning.
