There’s a battle shaping up between Greece and the British Museum.
It’s over the museum lending one of its Parthenon Marbles sculptures to Russia. It’s the first time in two centuries that the museum has lent out an item from the collection.
Greece contends the collection was looted by Britain’s Lord Elgin in the 19th century, and wants the artifacts back.
To anger the Greeks even more, the British Museum didn’t announce the loan of the elegant sculpture to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg until it was taken there.
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras calls it a provocation.
