New research by the University of Guelph says wind turbines have not had much effect on local property vaues.
Researchers studied thousands of sales of farms and homes in Ontario’s Melancthon Township from 2002 to 2010, an area with one of Canada’s oldest and largest wind farms.
While the study found that individual properties may lose value because of turbines, it’s not something that applies generally, according to co-author Professor Richard Vyn.
Vyn says the findings are a bit surprising considering the frequent and public criticism of the giant blades.
He says he wants to extend the research to other parts of the province to see if similar results occur.
