An Air Asia jet has disappeared over the Java Sea with 162 people aboard.
The Airbus A320 left Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, and was headed for Singapore. About halfway through the flight it vanished from radar.
There was no distress call from the aircraft, according to officials, however it did request a diversion due to weather. There were thunderstorms in the area.
Experts are optimistic that if the plane went down, wreckage will be found since the Java Sea isn`t very deep, and it has heavy ship traffic.
There were no Canadians on board.
