It definitely wasn’t a warm reception for Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird in the West Bank City of Ramallah today.
Palestinian demonstrators threw shoes and eggs at his convoy and held up signs that said Baird was not welcome.
The demonstrators are angry at Canada for opposing the Palestinian bid to have Israel charged with war crimes.
In a statement Baird said he had cordial and constructive discussions with his Palestinian counterpart Riad Malki, and asked him to reconsider pursuing such charges against Israel. Baird suggested it could be counterproductive to a negotiated solution between Israel and Palestine.
Baird is in the region for four days of meetings with Palestinian and Israeli officials.
