There’s an opportunity to actually own a piece of “the day the music died.”

Christie’s Auction House says singer-songwriter Don McLean is going to sell his notes and manuscript for

 his iconic “American Pie.”

Sixteen pages that include McLean’s original working manuscript and typed drafts of the song will be put on the auction block in April and are expected to sell for up to 1.5 million dollars U-S.

“American Pie” is 8 minutes long, and was number 1 on the charts for four weeks in 1972.

It refers to the deaths in a 1959 plane crash of singers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper.
