The National Gallery of Canada is getting a $2 million dollar gift from the Sobey Family foundation. The endowment will provide some much needed assistance to Canadian artists contributing works to “La Biennale di Venizia”. The hope is the funding will also attract other philanthropic partners.
Better known as the Venice Biennale, it’s a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place every second, odd number year in Venice, Italy and includes events for art, contemporary dance, architecture, cinema and theatre. Canadian artists have been presenting for over 60 years, and the exhibition has been instrumental in popularizing Canadian artists globally.
