The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party has a new leader, and it`s not the one most people expected.

Patrick Brown. a little-known Tory Member of Parliament in Ottawa has defeated deputy Ontario PC leader Christine Elliott.

The 36-year old Brown is from Barrie where he was elected to city council while still in university. He won a seat in the House of Commons in 2006. He never held a cabinet position.

He`s single and doesn`t yet have a seat in the Provincial Legislature.

Elliott, the widow of former federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, was supported by most members of the Tory caucus, and seemed to be on her way to becoming Ontario`s third female party leader in the Legislature.
